Are You An MLM Sucker?

Is what I wrote in the first paragraph on my Home Page a Bolt From the Blue? How many times have you signed up for a program online and checked the little box that says "I agree" before they let you click that last button to proceed?

In Multi Level Marketing, MLM or Network Marketing, Contracts, the Policies and Procedures - yes... that box you check usually reads something like: "I have read, understand and agree to the Terms of Agreement, the Policies and Procedures and the Compensation Plan."  Wow! You Swallowed the Bait and just agreed to a whole bunch of stuff and if you're like most people, you didn't even read it.... and, you don't even know what they are!  Or even where to find them now!

What in the world did you just agree to? That, my friend is your "pre-nuptial" Agreement with the company you've chosen to be in business with.... THEY are going to be paying you your check, or are they?   It's only your contract.....

And then there are those companies that make you check that little box, and you don't get to see or read the p&p until AFTER you've joined.... they mail them snail-mail to you!  Do you realize that's totally illegal?

If you were buying a business that cost you 000's of dollars, or rather millions, would you read the contract or maybe have an attorney read it? Of course you would! You'd have him go the whole nine yards!  But you get into your "little" business for very little money so you feel it isn't necessary. Really? So you don't expect to ever make a big income .... Right?

Another MLM Sucker! The company saw you coming. They know you are not likely going to read anything. And if you do, will you catch the tricky stuff?

10.3. AGREEMENT TERMINABLE AT WILL
You may terminate your relationship with [company] at any time by providing a signed written notice to [company]. [Company] may also terminate the relationship with you (including any partnerships, corporations or other entity) at any time by providing written notice. You or [company] are not required to have any reason, nor do you or [company] have to claim or prove any cause to terminate this relationship. If and when the relationship is terminated, you shall have no claim against [company] nor any right to claim or collect lost profits, lost opportunities or any other damages. Termination will result in the loss of all benefits as an [company] Independent Consultant.

In another company's P&P:

Under ENROLLER RESPONSIBILITIES:- A member must have ongoing contact, communication and management supervision with his or her sales organization. Examples of such supervision include, but are not limited to: product presentation, retail sales training, newsletters, written correspondence, personal meetings, telephone contact, voice mail, electronic mail, training sessions and accompanying individuals to [company] training. Members should be able to provide evidence to [company] , as requested, of ongoing fulfillment of sponsor responsibilities when asked by [company] .

If you're thinking, "Oh! They wouldn't do this to me." Simply ask yourself, "Why did they put it in the P&P if they weren't planning to use it?" This is criminal.  And be very careful if you need company approval when you want to sell your business.... If you can't sell it to someone YOU want to sell it to, there's a BIG problem.

This is only one of many policies that I can show you that you do not want to find in your company's Policies and Procedures.

You Just May Want To Learn From Good Friends of Mine....

Learn from their mistakes.... Avoid playing the company's games..... The Dirty Little Secrets Your Upline Doesn't Want You to Know... or Maybe They Don't Know Because They Were Suckered In Just Like You!

I'm TRULY sorry, but I do have to protect my Friends too...

Friend #1 - The company terminated her for making a "disparaging remark".  Then they boast of compression... truth is her name became "Place Holder" and the Organization SHE had built was handed on a golden platter to the company owner's wife.  And she's not the only one to whom this has happened unfortunately.

Friend #2 - My friend lost over $45k per month - had his paycheck stolen by the company, because the company did away with the compensation plan. Unfortunately plenty of Friends were affected by this company's move.

Friend #3 - This well known company which is again making negative news, terminated over 20 of their top distributors with a total income reported at $1 Million per month.

Friend #4 - This well known company built their reputation through network marketing. The company's product became so well known that they "didn't need distributors anymore" so they did away with the business model and started selling the product through traditional retail. Unfortunately again,  plenty of Friends were affected by this company's move.

Friend #5 - This company has a reputation for changing the compensation plan. Reportedly 9 times in the last 11 years. Each change took money away from the distributors. Unfortunately again, many Friends were affected by this company's move.

Friend #6 - This company is fighting law suits. They need cash and they are looking for distributors to terminate. Look out for that policy that requires you to keep all your retail receipts and present them to the company when asked. Oh, and if you live where there are hurricanes or such, be sure to keep those receipts in a VERY safe place. You know, just in case your house gets blown away or something. If you heard the real life story you wouldn't believe this one.

Friend #7 - Was earning a high 5-figure monthly income, went on holiday with his wife and family only to realize that because he hadn't sponsored 1 person that month, nor marketed any of the service plans, he would not be receiving a paycheck

And the list goes on and on and on.

I've NEVER come across anyone who's been paid back or apologized to by any of these criminal companies ... Fuhgeddaboutit!  Their pockets are much deeper than those folk from whom they've just stolen paychecks.... millions deep.

Unless you own the Fountain of Youth, you’re going to get older, just like the rest of us. Another bad scenario I watch out for is “ground floor opportunity” and "pre-launch". Over 90% of the companies that get started, don’t EVER make it 2 years. Only a very small percentage of them will last even 2 years.  And most of the others have disappeared completely after 5 years.

It’s imperative to choose a company that has proven it will be around long-term. However please don't be fooled and suckered into believing that just because the company is over 5 years old that it's a great 5 pillars company or that if it's made it 50 years its the best company!!  You MUST still evaluate the Policies and Procedures together with the compensation plan.... and should you want help with that please feel free to call or write.

Your benchmark should be at least 2 years. It takes at least 2 years to get their ducks in a row.  It takes the company management at least 2 years to get their product campaigns together and going smoothly, product approval in the countries they plan to operate in, warehouses built, etc.

But at 2 years they’ve already survived most of the normal growing pains.  A 2 year old company has a far better chance of being around long-term than any “pre-launch” or hyped up "get in NOW" (before they fold!) pre-launch company!  May I strongly advise that BEFORE YOU commit your time, energy, effort & of course your hard-earned money to that business model, make them prove themselves by being around at least 2 years.  Does this make sense to you?

When you get to the point when YOU want to RETIRE, when you want to walk the beautiful beaches of this earth, wouldn't YOU want to know that your ladder's been leaning against the right wall all these years?  Here's the smoking gun... Too many find out that because they have chosen to retire and they have an annual renewable contract, the company just does not renew their contract.  This of course means that there's no more recurring income... hmmm and isn't that what you've been working so hard for?  What does YOUR contract agreement p&p say about annual renewals?  Do you have to pay the company annually to stay in business?  If it's in there, what does that tell you of the integrity of the company?  If they tell you they have no intention of using it against you or anyone, before you become as sick as a parrot, ask them to remove it!  This is more than criminal. If it remains in your contract you won't stand a snowball's chance in hell of receiving your recurring income should they not renew your contract..... Think they really care about you? They don't care a rats patout about you and that you helped build the company!  Sad to say, but at that point they've hanged, drawn and quartered you unless you put a flea in the company management's ear now!
